SCA Viking Dress

SCA Viking Dress

This dress was made for a girl who wanted a quality, easy care viking dress for her SCA experience. She had some other things made for her that she was not satisfied with. The dress is pictured here with a chemise/kirtle of mine.

The dress is made from blue linen. It was made based on historical documentation from several different sources. The straps are a combination of two styles. She found documentation for both wide plain straps and loop straps. She preferred the plain strap but liked the functionality of the loop strap so I made plain straps with a very small loops of self fabric at the ends to make it easy to pin the broaches on. There is no evidence that this was done but both styles were worn and you cannot see the small loops when the broaches are in place.

She asked that it be overlocked so that it would be easy to machine wash and care for. I know she is planning embroidering it herself in the future.
