1860 Ball Gown

1860 Ball Gown

This dress is part of my personal collection. It is purple and black stripe taffeta with black lace and ruffle. The bodice laces up the back and it is heavily boned so there is no need for a separate corset. The bodice is piped and the shoulders have a little elastic to make it more comfortable. I made a hoop and petticoat just for this dress. Hoops of the 1860s slope out further in the back than the front. I enjoyed patterning, cutting, fitting and stitching this dress for myself.
