Gentleman's Frock Suit

This is another suit that I made. The pants, vest and coat didnt match in this period. The gentleman for whom this was made, choose all of the materials and I think that he made wonderful choices. I especially liked the vintage buttons for the vest.

The Coat is made form lightweight blue/gray heathered wool and is lined with a deep blue satin. It has welt pockets and cuffs with buttons. The collar, front, pocket flaps and cuffs are edge stitched with a deep blue/gray rayon thread giving just a little visual interest. The lines for the coat are not strictly historical. The coat was first and foremost inspired by the character Baptiste Debureau played by Jean-Louis Barrault in the 1945 film "Children of Paradise" so the coat is a mixture of 1834 and 1945 all though the over all feeling of the film makes it seem like its from the late 1930s.

The pants from a blue on black herringbone wool have a button fly and welt pockets in the back along with suspender buttons to keep them high enough under the vest. They are also partially lined with a figured satin. I’m afraid that I didnt have a dress from tall enough to put the pants on so they are dragging on the ground a little in the picture. The gentleman was very tall and I found myself standing on a chair to fit him.

Also pictured is the vest and cravat that I made and the ready-to-wear shirt that was altered to have the correct collar.
